Second flood clean-up for village

Villagers in Boscastle, Cornwall, are cleaning up their village, after it was hit by torrential rains - for the second time in three years.
The storms had left some shops and homes under about 50cm of water.
But anti-flooding systems put in place after the town was destroyed in 2004 stopped the river from overflowing and causing more widespread damage.

Fire crews have been pumping the water out of people's homes and said no one had been injured.

A spokesman for the Cornwall fire brigade said: "The flood defences seem to have done exactly what they're designed to do and have carried the water safely through the village."

The village was devastated by severe flooding in 2004
On 16 August 2004, a three-metre wall of water crashed through the village after an unusually heavy rainfall.
Nearly 100 people had to be airlifted to safety as the flood waters destroyed lots of buildings and washed vehicles into the harbour.
Since then, more than £4m has been spent on flood defences to stop the same thing happening again.
